“You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.” – Psalm 119:68
God is good. His goodness includes holiness, justice, love, grace, mercy, faithfulness, and truth. We are repeatedly told, “He is good, His love endures forever”. (Psalm 106:1; 107:1; 118:1, 29; 136:1; 1 Chron. 16:34) No mere human being is perfectly and consistently good, but God is. Jesus is good for while He became man, He was always God. Our good God keeps His covenants and promises in faithful love. We can rely on God to be good.
All God does is good. When He created, He declared each step as good and the completed creation as very good. He now does good to all sending sunshine and rain to bless both the righteous and the unrighteous. Every good gift comes from Him (James 1:17). And His ultimate gift, giving His Son, Jesus, who willingly came to die for our sins, is the ultimate of good action. We can rely on God’s works to be good.
Because He is good, we can pray with confidence. “You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. … I will call to you for you will answer me.” (Psalm 86:5,7) Let us worship our good God. Let us call on Him with all our needs. Let us trust in Jesus always.
